Tonido Shell for Mac?

Postby pink » Fri Jan 20, 2012 1:31 pm

is it possible to use Tonido Shell with the Mac version? I tried fooling around with it to no avail and I'm not sure if I should continue...

What was the issue? Did you modify the manifest file?

Tonido for Mac doesn't have PHP support...does it? I have never tested mac because I was under the impression it has no PHP.

I thought that it wouldn't work the fullest on mac, guess I was wrong about it. In case you have more information on this - let us know in this thread! Thanks a bunch for that!

There isn't much info on this. PHP can run on Mac like anything else; therefore, Tonido Shell will also, if there is PHP support.

I probably will not need to do anything on my end if/when PHP support hits Tondio Mac. I am predicting Tonido Shell will run straight out of the box with no modifications if/when we get PHP support.

I think for the Tonido Team, adding PHP support is low priority. This may be due to the fact there doesn't appear to be many people interesting in creating apps or calling for support of PHP to be added for Mac, maybe I am wrong. I don't see too much actual dev talk on the forum, so it is difficult for me to tell if that means there is little dev talk, or little actual dev work being done. There seems to be a lot more talk about installing debian and apt-getting packages than developing new unique packages for Tonido (which is cool, but also a shame, because I think there could be a lot of clever things people could put together to benefit the non-techie people who are intimidated by doing all of that).

I am not sure what you are referring to. Yes, it is probably possible to get PHP plugins running if you install PHP separately (and your plugin does not look for Tonido specific PHP variables).

Tonido Shell expects that PHP and MySQL Lite is installed. It also expects that certain Tonido specific PHP variables are defined.

So in order for Tonido Shell to run on the Mac Tonido, the Tonido Team needs to provide the same environment they have provided on all other platforms. Yes I could provide a work around, but I am hoping that eventually Tonido Mac will come with the appropriate environment.
